On Tuesday I received this update...
Hey everyone!I had my BIG ultrasound at 18 weeks 3 days pregnant today. I found out that my identical twins are girls which I am very excited about as I have always imagined spoiling little girly girls!I also found out that they have Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS). For more information on TTTS, please check out - http://www.tttsfoundation.com/index.php . I haven't had a chance to do that much research yet, but it basically means that one baby takes more than its fair share of the nourishment via the placenta- potentially taking all the amniotic fluid away from the other. I will have further testing on Thursday to see exactly what TTTS stage out of 1-5 (5 is the worst) that my babies have. Currently the high risk specialist believes that my babies have stage 2. The MRI and Fetal Echo Cardiagram could reveal that they actually have stage 3. TTTS is treatable and Cincinnati has the best treatment/doctors in the country for this particular thing. With treatment, both babies have a 67% chance of survival and there is a 92% chance that 1 will survive. All that being said, I am officially on bed rest for the remainder of my pregnancy. From the little I have read, apparently bed rest and a high protein diet are the two things I can do to help the babies have a better chance. We are asking for prayers for the babies that they will both not only survive but be born healthy and happy. We are also asking for prayers that I can handle being on bed rest for the next 3 -4 months and that God will direct Darin and I to make the right decisions regarding treatment options and will continuously calm our fears. And then I received this last night......Hello again!Darin and I spent all day at Cincinnati Children's Hospital - working with the Fetal Care Center. We found out that our babies have Stage 3B of TTTS. It turns out that Stage 5 means the babies are already gone, so Stage 3 out of Stage 4 is pretty serious. We were told that we needed to take action by Monday. So, we decided to have the fetoscopic laser (laser abration) done tomorrow at 10:30 am at Children's Hospital. I will be in the hospital overnight so they can monitor the babies. I will have a follow up appointment on Monday at Good Sam Hospital. If you want to read up on the Fetal Care Center and the procedure we are having done tomorrow, check out this website - http://www.fetalcarecenter.org/Please continue to pray for Haley & Katelyn and for me & Darin! Thank you so much! Your prayers are much appreciated!Love,Lauren
Please continue to pray with us for Darin, Lauren, Haley and Katelyn!
