Update on Caelum

This past Wednesday we took Caelum to his follow-up appointment with the Urologist.  We started off the morning with him getting a Renal Scan which consist of him getting a catheter and an IV.  Caelum did wonderful through it all.  He first got the urinary catheter placed and did great through that. Next they had to poke him 3 times to get IV line inserted (they would get a return but was unable to feed the IV catheter through his vein, but were successful on the 3rd time.)  So he was way upset through that all.  Thankfully, all the crying wore him out as he was in a papous for the actual renal scan which took 45 minutes.  So he passed out for a majority of the testing after sucking down a bottle. After the testing we grabbed a quick bite to eat then headed to the doctors office.  He reviewed the scan and sounded a bit more positive on this visit.  He said his left kidney is still dilated and is definitely obstructed however it is still working really good but just drains really slow (so urine is always in his kidney due to the slow drainage.)  His left kidney is doing 55% of the work, while the right kidney is doing 45% in which is should be 50/50 - so he was glad to see that.  So the verdict is to go back in 6 months for repeat of some tests to keep an eye on it.  Caleum will still take his antibiotic to prevent UTI's.  He said there is still a great chance for him to grow out of it by the time he is 2-3 years old.  The reason being that far out is that as his body grows everything will stretch out and hopefully "unkink" and relieve the obstruction.  If not, then we will talk surgery!
