This past Wednesday we spent the day at the hospital and doctors office with Caelum with all of his Urology Follow-up appointments. We started off with ultrasounds of kidneys which took a while as he was a wiggle worm and it was hard to keep him still to get all of the images. Then we went to get the VCUG in which required him to get a catheter, then they fill his bladder then wait for him to pee it all out and take pictures while he is doing that. They did the VCUG 2 times, so he was not a happy camper but thankfully was so worn out by the second test that he was a bit calmer. After the testing we then headed to the doctor to get the final results in which we pretty much knew them already. But basically his right kidney has cleared up of the reflux but his left kidney now has a low grade reflux and is still obstructed (known as a UPJ obstruction - for those who want to google it.) Thankfully the left kidney has not gotten any worst on the obstruction part but has not gotten any better either. So we will now go back in 3 months for a Renal Scan in which they will see how the left kidney is functioning. Caelum had a renal scan at 6 months in which he had to get an IV and a catheter and lay strapped on the bed for at least 45 minutes, so it shall be an interesting time this time with a mobile toddler being strapped down!! Thank goodness for technology in that hopefully he will be interested in watching a movie by then?!! At the last renal scan his left kidney was doing 45% off the work and right about 55% so it was going fine last time, so we will see. The Urologist says that if kids outgrow this it is usually by the time they are 2.5 years of age. So it is pretty much still a waiting game unless his kidney is not functioning good still. Thankfully he gets to stop his antibiotic he has been taking every day since birth after this weekend. So that will be nice to not have to worry with that every night as he is getting to where he does not want to take it .
Yesterday Caelum had his 1 year well child appointment. Here are his stats...
Weight - 20.2 lbs (11%)
Height - 28.3 inches (7%)
Head Circumference - in 73%
He got his 1 year shots which consists of 5 actual injections and had blood work done as well. So it was not a fun appointment but did WAY better than I expected. He slept all night and woke up in a great mood this morning and moving around fine like he has no soreness! Praise the Lord!!
The first picture is of Caelum during his testing on Wednesday...this was before he got really upset! The second one is from last weekend when we were playing around in the "photo studio" for the first time - it is a little blurry, but Jason was trying to set everything up when it was taken!
