Today I took Caelum to his 1 year follow up with Urology and the Superman in him showed up!! I have been eager for this appointment to get a "2nd opinion!" Just did not get a warm fuzzy after our last appointment in Texas. I guess I was just hoping he would be cleared and no more follow ups or anything and we did not get the your cleared sign. So we set out today and headed to ol Dunn, NC (in the country aka, women with real country accents and teased hair amongst the cornfields!!) We met Dr. Perry and briefly talked about Caelum's history and talked about his Ultrasound he had done a few weeks back. He said his left kidney looks inflamed but may be normal for Caelum due to his surgery, but of course wants to run further test to make sure it is still functioning well. And then see Caelum back in 2 weeks to discuss the test results and maybe refer to a Pediatric Urologist if needed. Dr. Perry sees some Pediatric patients, but is not his specialty in Urology. He said there is one Pediatric Urologist in Chapel Hill area that they refer their patients too. But of course they try to "weed out" the patients as to not fill up the Pedi doctor with all these patients that really do not need to be seen. Which makes total sense! He asked if we had ever had bloodwork to check his kidney function, so I said no. So naturally he wanted to get bloodwork drawn today. And we are awaiting to hear back of when the other 2 test are scheduled for, but will most likely be this week or next week. The other 2 tests he has to get he had as an infant and were not pleasant so I can only imagine how they will be now that he is 3. The first one is a VCUG...they have to cath him and then make him pee and take pictures of his bladder/kidney areas. The second test is a nuclear test in which he has to get an IV and then lay on the table for 45-60 minutes, STILL, while it videos his kidney filling and emptying. I am hoping they can sedate him a little or if not I will have Benadryl on hand to give him. I still remember the last time he had these test....Jason and I holding him down for the VCUG and 2 other nurses doing the spraying him to pee and taking the films. And thankfully for the nuclear study he was so upset over the IV insertion, that he was wiped out and slept the whole time on the table. So we shall see!! But like I said he truly was Superman today...they had to draw his blood and he took it like a champ and did not even flinch or cry at all. He sat in my lap and watched them the whole time they were poking and drawing the blood out!
So onto more exciting news......
I am not sure who is more excited about Kerrick going to Kindergarten...Kerrick or Caelum. Caelum was praying last week that he was glad Kerrick did not have to go to Kindergarten yet. And tonight he wants to pack his lunch for him!! He was doing he happy Kindergarten dance for him before bed. Too fun!!!
And to top off the day, Kerrick woke up with Pink Eye this morning, so he tagged along for Caelum's appointment then took him to his own appointment this afternoon. I stayed and worked a few hours, so he was excited to get to be at my work for a "long" time!! At least he drew me some pictures to decorate my desk with.
We will keep you updated on Caelum and have another post tomorrow, for Kerrick's BIG Day!!!
